A Brand New Adventure!

After months (and months) of waiting and praying, I'm finally starting a new job in two weeks' time!  It's the kind of job where you stay in one town for a few months or years until a specific project is completed, and then move on to the next town and project - right up my alley.

My first destination will be Kathu: A small (okay, tiny) mining town in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa.  Kathu is well-known for three things: Its iron and manganese ore mines (and, of course, the associated red mine dust that is just everywhere...  House cleaning should present a whole new challenge); its beautiful golf course (once one of the top ten courses in the country - pity I don't play...); and, lastly, large numbers of Camel Thorn Trees.

Kathu is, however, not so well known for its healthy dining options - let's just say that fried chicken and burgers are about as healthy as it gets...  Hmmmm, this should be very interesting...  But, I'm determined to do my thing: I'll stock up on whatever is wholesome whenever I travel somewhere else and, for the rest of the time, there's always online shopping (even though overnight delivery services can technically not really be classified as overnight in those parts, if you catch my drift).

On the bright side, rumour has it that Kathu has a very active running club, which, of course, will be one of my first stops when I get there (wink).  Kathu is also built on deep, thick, loose, red Kalahari sand - it should be a bit like running next to the ocean (well... minus the ocean).

Excited as I am about this new chapter in my life, however, my heart aches to leave behind all that is near and dear to me: The best friends one could ever wish for (I'm so blessed); my family; Happy Place Number One; great memories...  I'm going to miss you all so much!  You'll always be in my heart.  Come and visit!!!
