Getting paid to train

You've trained 28 times since October, now we're giving you R700 cash back!  Your moola will be in your account soon.

Hooray!  Best text message ever.

I mentioned a while ago that I got a pretty sweet deal when I joined the gym in October last year (see the reasons why I re-joined here): I got the month of October on the house (which ended up being just one day for me, since I joined October 30th, ha!); I got a free gym bag, which Will has been eyeing since the day I brought it home; plus I was given the incentive of getting R700 cash back if I logged 28 gym workouts by 10 January 2016.

So how did it go?

It was hard work...!  Twenty-eight gym workouts in 10 weeks (i.e. three workouts per week) sound harmless enough, but I can promise you one thing: Once you throw in a flu bug, a week on the farm between Christmas and New Year and the fact that I only use gym training as cross training, since I prefer to run outside (and still log most of my runs outside), it gets pretty interesting!  Lucky for me the last 10 days of the training period coincided with the worst heat wave we've had in decades, so daily gym pool swims were more of a necessity than an effort.  Long story short: I got my moola!  (And I'm proud to say that I didn't log a single cheat workout - not my style, thanks! )

And was it worth it?  Absolutely!  I was more motivated than ever to stick to my workout schedule (money obviously motivates me to move, ha!), cross-trained like a boss and last, but most definitely not least...

New shoes!

Mission accomplished.

  1. Awesome achievement! I think most would battle even if the gym was their only form of exercise. Enjoy the new shoes!

  2. I Love my cash back on race entry fees, and the weekly free Vida coffees. I joined the gym 15 years ago, and apart from the initial joining fee, have never had to pay a cent, and have national access. I make sure I never miss the minimum requirement to maintain the benefit. Keep it up Karien!

    1. Thanks, Jaco! I must say that we also enjoy all the Vitality benefits and certainly try to make the most of it! Sadly we don't have a Vida or Kauai within at least a 300 km radius of us, so we're seriously missing out in that respect - hopefully soon!

    1. Sal laat weet, Saar! Sal laat weet as hulle 'n paar myle ophet! Xxxx
