His and Hers

Do you share everything with your other half?

Way back when I met Will, I was a sharer and he wasn't.  I remember my shock as I once sat right beside him, deeply and madly in love, and he ate an entire orange without offering me a single segment...  The horror, haha!  You see, he comes from a large family of four kids and I guess sharing is a bit more difficult when that many siblings want a bite of whatever you're having...  I, on the other hand, have only one brother, so sharing was a lot easier growing up.  We still laugh about that orange incident to this day!

We can laugh about it now...

Over the years, though, Will has become a super sharer: He now shares everything and often gives up his share for me and the kids to enjoy.  Even oranges.  Problem is, I've since discovered something that I don't want to share: My running stuff.  I guess you can say that the years of tormenting Will to share his oranges have come back to haunt me...

You see, I have this super awesome purple Garmin Forerunner 220 with a lily white inner-strap.  I love that thing.  And Will doesn't own a running watch...  Now although I'm the first person to rejoice whenever Will goes for a run, I draw the line at sharing my watch.  Because guys sweat - a lot.  And lots of sweat equals grimy lily white watch straps.  You see where I'm going with this?

What's mine is yours, but...

So, much to Will's shock and horror, I sat down right beside him last week and said that he can't borrow my running watch again.  Ever.  And that he needs to get his own.

I guess I'll be buying my own oranges for a while...

Would/do you share your running watch/stuff?

  1. I guess you will be buying a running watch soon! A black one maybe. I am an only child =- sharing has been difficult but gosh, after kids, it is just forced onto you

    1. I'm afraid it's headed in that direction, lol! And yes, black will definitely be the only way to go :) .

  3. I am a super selfish person, but I am very up front about it. I don't mind sharing things with my children. However when it comes to a significant other I am selfish. Probably one of the first things I tell them is I am selfish. That way they know up front. I would not let anyone use my watch. Have a great day

  4. I share most things pretty good, but not my cup of tea! Drives me nuts when I sit down with a big mug of hot tea and my husband wants sip. No no no no no! Make your own cup! He insists he just wants a sip, but then he wants another and another. Hard to enjoy a cup of tea when someone else keeps drinking it! Now I just hand it to him and make me another if he asks for a sip.

    1. I had to giggle when I read your comment :) . I think I feel the same way about sitting down after a really rough day at work to enjoy a piece of dark chocolate... I usually share my chocolate, but after a tough day/week I need to just close my eyes and savour it alone, haha!

  5. Haha this made me laugh :). I too am head over heels in love with my dear purple Garmin. I think I would share, they probably wouldn't want to use it after me though. I get super sweaty!

    1. I think you've just hit the nail on the head, Hailey: I don't sweat on my arms at all (TMI? Sorry!), so my Garmin never gets grimy if only I wear it. I guess I just want to keep it that way?

  6. I think in some instances (like this one!) its good to have separate things, especially if it's an item both of you might ever want to be using at the same time. My fiancee and I generally have separate things.

    1. True, Lisa. I'm not allowed to use Will's cycling stuff either (totally understandable, though - I'm a danger on a bike, ha...!), so I guess we're even ;) .
