Saturday was such a big and exciting day for me! I was invited, in my capacity as a local mama blogger, to attend and sit on a panel at the Clicks PaedIQ Baby Bootcamp in Bloemfontein with a view to sharing my experience in getting back to running after giving birth, as well as running with baby - my first ever big event as a blogger! To say that I was excited about this opportunity is actually a huge understatement - I had butterflies for months, haha!
Of course I also just couldn't pass up the opportunity to do Naval Hill parkrun while I was in Bloem (a 1.5 hour drive from where we live) - even if it meant that I would be cutting things really fine time-wise... The run started at 08:00 a.m. and the baby bootcamp at 08:30 for 09:00 a.m. - plenty of time to fit in both, right...? I was in two minds about it for days, until I saw on good old Google Maps that the bootcamp venue was a mere 1.7 km from the parkrun venue... Decision made.
|Yay! Always good to be back.|
As I was walking to the parkrun starting point, I bumped into a familiar face...
I couldn't believe my luck, haha! What is it with me and ostriches?! (You can read about my previous encounters here and here.) And this time she literally passed within a metre of me... It was a bit of an uncomfortable moment for both of us, ahem.
The run went great (a Naval Hill parkrun PB by almost two minutes - whoop!); the transition (aka getting rid of my running clothes in a tiny public restroom cubicle) went smoothly; and I sat at the baby bootcamp, all dressed up and fresh (well, sort of) just 20 minutes later.

The Clicks PaedIQ Baby Bootcamp was a tonne of fun - starting with this heavenly spread! My 05:00 a.m. wake-up call, followed by a 1.5 hour drive and a new Naval Hill parkrun PB left me famished, so let's just say that the preggy mamas and I were equally happy after tucking in.
In the end the panel discussion didn't materialise as originally planned, but it was still great to be there and be part of some of the behind-the-scenes stuff, like workshop marketing, etc. - hopefully the first of many for me! Thanks, Clicks and PaedIQ!
|Having fun with all the new mamas!|
Have a lovely week, everyone!
