Something to look forward to

The first five months of my Year of Running Fun have exceeded all of my expectations - with visits to three new-to-me parkruns (including two seaside parkruns); the start of our very own Kimberley parkrun; and a shiny new 10 km PR, it's definitely been a blast.  But lately I've been feeling a bit blah - like I need something new to look forward to.  Nothing like the old carrot-and-stick method to fan the flame, right?

So I thought I'd pen down all the running fun I still have planned for the year - sort of as a visual reminder to lift the spirits when the mundane becomes a bit much, you know?

And here it is:

29 August 2015 - Spar Women's Race in Pretoria

[Source.]

I've run this race a few times and absolutely love it.  It's actually more of an afternoon outing than just a run: Thousands of women gather at Supersport Park in Centurion to run, walk, sing, play and just chill the afternoon away.  And this year it's going to be extra special: Miss K will be joining me for the 5 km (in the single stroller) and we'll be donning tutus and tiaras!  I'm literally counting the sleeps - woohoooo!

Aaaaaand, since the race only starts at 14:00, we'll have more than enough time to do a Gauteng parkrun the morning before the race - happy dance!

31 October 2015 - The Ghaap River Xtreme near Douglas

[Source.]

Will and I actually planned on doing this event last year, but he unexpectedly had to go out of town for some work stuff, so we gave it a miss.  But this year we'll definitely be there: A fun family festival of running, cycling, eating and swimming on the banks of the Orange River near Douglas.

The trail run has three distance options (21.1 km, 10 km and 5 km), and I'm thinking of giving the 10 km a go, but we'll see.  Can't wait!

5 December 2015 - Magersfontein 25 km and 10 km Race

[Source.]

Ahhhhh, my favourite local race!  This race begins and ends at the Magersfontein Battlefields just outside of Kimberley, where the Battle of Magersfontein took place between the Boers and the British on 11 December 1899 during the Second South African War.

I have some "shoot for the stars" goals for this race, but more about that in a later post - first some more tempo runs with the club!

I feel better already.

What do you have planned for the rest of 2015?

  3. I am SO excited for you and Miss K's race! Aww you girls are going to be so cute!! Eeee can't wait for the pictures for that one :). I'm a little bit jealous that you're doing a woman's race though. I was so sad when they took away the one here! You explained it perfectly, it's like one big girl power party ;). You've had a great year so far, and I can't wait to hear about all of your upcoming adventures for the second half of 2015!
