2014 in Numbers

Our holiday so far has been a hot [38.5 degrees Celsius (101.3 degrees Fahrenheit) on Christmas Day] and sick (my chest is on fire and I'm coughing my lungs out) affair.

But, instead of lamenting, I thought I'd share with you my running stats for 2014.  They're not outstanding in any way, but for a new mama of two, and with everything else that went on in 2014, I think they're okay.  Plus they make a great baseline to improve on next year, right?

Here they are:

Total kilometres logged: 575 km (of which 49% were solo runs, 36.3% were single stroller runs, and 14.7% were double stroller runs).  More stroller mileage than solo mileage, whoop!

Number of races completed: Seven (including four road races and three trail races, one of which was a night race).

Number of PRs clocked: One, by three minutes and fifteen seconds, during the Fish River Half-Marathon in Keetmanshoop, Namibia.  My previous half-marathon PR stood for four years...!

Number of parkruns completed: Eleven.  After being oblivious to all things parkrun for way too long, I did my first one in Cape Town on 8 March 2014.  The rest, as they say, is history - I'm hooked for life!

parkrun No. 11.

And with that, we say so long to 2014.  Here's to an outstanding year of running for all of us in 2015!

  1. Well done on your PB, Karien! I am looking into visiting Namibia for a few training runs in 2015 and are considering Fish River Ultra or Namib DC...will decide closer to the time. All the best with your training and racing for 2015!!!

    1. Oooh, I can't wait to read about your Namibia runs, Moerieda! Love, love, love that country :) .

Thanks so much for the good wishes - wishing you a wonderful year of running too!

  2. Sounds like a great year! I hope you have a great 2015 as well and get in lots of great park runs.

    1. Thanks very much, Christy - I'm planning to do some parkruns in new and beautiful locations, so I'm really excited about that!

      Have a blessed 2015!

  3. Oh no! I hope you're feeling better!

    1. Blegh - thanks, Lisa. Not how I planned to end the year at all, haha! Hopefully all will be well by the time 2015 arrives :) .

  4. Ooo I love the chart with your solo vs. stroller miles. Very cool! I think you had a great year! You PR'd AND had a baby in the same year!! I don't think that's very common;) Here's to another great year!:)

    1. Thanks so much, Hailey - and amen to another great year of running for us both!

I'm super proud of those stroller miles vs. solo miles stats, heehee! Those strollers are getting heavier by the day...!

I love hearing from you!
