I love running with other people: Whether it's tens of thousands of strangers at a major race, or just a handful of familiar faces at a local race - I love it. But, most of all, I love running with my people: Friends, old and new, colleagues and family. Love it.
This morning Will and I found ourselves with corresponding gaps in our diaries. And before it could disappear into oblivion, unutilized and under-appreciated, we went for a run. Together. I know - prepare yourselves for a rainstorm.
The best of all my attempts at a jumping pic. Yeah, I really nailed it. [Will didn't want to jump, because his "legs weren't properly warmed up yet". Sigh.] |
Our run went a little something like this:
Will: "Are you tired?"
Me (gasping for air): "No".
A little while later:
Will: "Are you tired?"
Me (still gasping for air): "No, this is just my pace".
And another while later:
Me: "Shouldn't we be headed back home now?"
Will (while running circles around me and whistling the national anthem): "But this is such a scenic route! Puuuuush! Puuuuuuush! You can do it!"
Grrrr. But so did: I pushed. And I grunted. And I gasped for air. It sure wasn't pretty, but I loved every painful minute of it. And most importantly: I survived. With no pains and no niggles. Whoop!
Will's post-mortem of our run concluded that "there is still lots of work to be done". On my side, of course. Duly noted. But watch out, Big Dog - I'm coming for you!

Done. And done. |

Haha nothing like running with someone to really push you!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree - at this rate I might actually be breaking that elusive sub-50 10 km soon...!
DeleteNice one! Runs with special people are the best.
ReplyDeleteCan't agree with you more :) .
DeleteMy better improvements happened when I didn't run alone.
ReplyDeleteNice run (with also the national anthem)!
Holding thumbs that running with Will will improve my running too!
DeleteHaha I laughed out loud at the "legs weren't properly warmed up" part. I love the conversation between the two of you. My mom usually rides along side of me on the bike while I run and when I first started back up she would ask "are you feeling ok?" and I would get a little snappy and say "of course I'm feeling ok! Are you saying I don't look ok?!" Which of course, I obviously didn't because I was sucking for air like it was my job. ;)
ReplyDeleteLol, we're SO similar in that respect! Will and I used to cycle together many moons ago, and, of course, I was waaaay slower than him. I used to get soooo grumpy when he'd ask me if I was okay - the first question out of my mouth was always "why - don't I look okay?!". Haha, at least we giggle about it now :) .
