Spring has finally sprung down here in (some parts of!) South Africa and we are relishing the longer days, warm afternoons and, of course, the start of the racing season! Being six months pregnant, I will not be doing
much any racing this season, but Will is already at it and completed his second race of the season last night: The Makro Night Race.
Warmed-up and ready to go.
The race took on a criterium format, where riders get a set time (30 minutes plus one lap for Will's category) to complete as many laps as possible in a closed-off area (a parking lot, in this instance). In case you were wondering: These guys move. Will clocked a maximum speed of 47 km/h at one point - pretty darn fast on a short course with lots of twists and turns!
Will's group at the starting line. Yes, it was pitch dark!
Will only used this race as a training race for his bigger goal races towards the end of this year (the OFM Challenge) and early next year (the Pick n Pay Cape Argus Cycle Challenge), and did great considering. Go, Will!!
Baby Girl and I also had some serious business to take care of while Dad was busy racing...
So many choices, so little time...
What a great night out as a family - thankful for health and fitness and each other!
