Running for three

Thank you so much for all the kind wishes on the announcement of our second pregnancy - we sincerely appreciate each one!  Will and I are both extremely excited, but also feel deeply humbled and so blessed.  Truly thankful.

                                                  *   *   *

On Saturday morning I went for my very first run with both Little Ones - Baby Girl in the stroller and Baby Junior in the belly!  It was such a special run - a memory that I'll always keep close to my heart.  Although I felt really, really good during the entire run, I can definitely tell that I now have another little passenger on board - The Vortex felt steeper than ever!  But the run went great and I'm hoping and trusting that we will, with my doctor's blessing, be able to continue running for as long as possible during this pregnancy.

Running with both Little Ones!

My plan is to take things really slow and easy: To cut back on both distance and speed and to aim to keep running three times a week for as long as possible.  With my first pregnancy I had no idea what to expect and I know now that I could have done a number of small little things differently in order to help my body adjust.  I only ran sporadically during those nine months and stopped running altogether at five months pregnant, so I'm really hoping that this time things will be different.

Well, here we go...!

If you're a mom and you ran during your pregnancy/ies, please share your tips with me!

  1. I am really glad you are giving it a shot :) You will stay so fit!

    My best tip is to keep a steady flow of calcium in, and protein (more protein than you might think). I had to stop running with my first because my diet was too poor in protein and my blood pressure went up as a result (preeclampsia), making it unsafe to run.
    I changed my diet and ran through my pregnancy with my third son- to 36 weeks, when baby shifted and things changed drastically.
    Another thing. Do your best, but if any health issues get in the way of running, remember fitness can/will be regained. So happy for you !

  2. Oh I missed the announcement! Congrats! Life with two babes is challenging but so fun. All the time my toddler tells me "Thank you for my baby sister mommy!" It's the sweetest ever. Enjoy it :)

  3. Sounds like we did things similarly the first time around - and I have similar goals if/when I have a second. I will enjoy seeing how you do things. What a special memory this first run will be!
