One of THOSE weeks

This week was one of THOSE new-parent weeks for us: It was filled to the brim with blessings; but boy, oh, boy, was it low on sleep!  With Will's flexible work hours we're usually able to schedule our nap and "baby duty" turns so that we're never both exhausted at the same time - something that's been working really well for us.  But this week Will had a bomb of a week at work, which means we're both pretty much sleep walking by now...

For me the biggest blessing of the week was without a doubt my birthday yesterday (on World Move for Health Day!): I was enveloped by the love and care of family and friends and I am richly, richly blessed.

One thing that I always try to do for myself on my birthday, is run.  I find that replacing "Tomorrow I will..." with "Today I did..." right from Day One just sets the right tone for the year ahead.  Which is exactly what I did yesterday, in my sleep deprived state: I laced up my birthday shoes and hit the treadmill at the gym...  Oy.  I actually have no words.  My run went a little something like this:

Thump...  (Heavy footfall.)
"Boy, this run is really tough."
Thump...
10:36...  (Treadmill timer reading.)
"You can do this - just keep on going."
Thump...
10:37...
"Are you kidding me?  This treadmill timer must be broken.
Thump...  Thump...
"You can do this.  It's hard until it's easy."
Thump...
10:38...
"It will get easier."
Thump...
10:38...
"Wow, this must be the longest 20 minutes in the history of mankind..."
10:39...
"I wonder if the entire gym can hear my heavy footfall??"
Thump...

And so it went on until the timer eventually read 40:00 and I got off the treadmill hot, tired and dizzy.  But also satisfied: I did it.  And I can't wait to do it again.  Right after some serious napping and a whole lot of taking it easy for a day or two.

Post-run with Baby Girl.  I.  Was.  Exhausted.
