In search of adventure

If ever you were to see my Jack Russel, Zipp, between the hours of 06:00 and 17:00 on any given day, you'd think that she was the unhappiest mutt alive.  Sad, droopy dog eyes staring into oblivion; interspersed by deep, heart wrenching sighs...

Bath time.  Sigh.

Nap time.  Sigh.

What you wouldn't know, however, is that at exactly 17:05 every day, she comes alive.  Will or I can just aim in the direction of the cupboard containing all things K9 (including the leaches for walking) and she'd jump up and sparkle, forgetting all about the fact that, just five minutes ago, she managed to sport a look resembling that of a dog on the brink of death.  Yip, Zipp loves adventure and literally lives for her daily strolls.  She needs to get out there and do stuff.

For the past couple of weeks I've been feeling a little bit like Zipp.  I need adventure to look forward to and Will and I have seriously been lacking in this department lately.  Don't get me wrong: I'm so thankful for every single small, everyday blessing.  I'm also a firm believer in living each moment and making a conscious effort not to wish one's life away.  But, having said that, a race or a trip or an adventure in whichever disguise (no matter how big or small) always gets my blood pumping.  It helps me complete those mundane, everyday chores with a song in my heart.  I love having something to look forward to.

So, instead of laying around with droopy eyes, I did a bit of surfing and came up with the perfect cure for my doldrums: Pin pointing my must-do adventurous race for 2012!  Entries to this race only open later this year, but just having identified and mentally committed to it already makes me smile!

My to do adventurous race for 2012 is...  The Sani Stagger Endurance Race to be held on 24 November 2012!  (I'm still deciding between the full and the half marathon.)

Does it get any more beautiful than this?! [Source.]

This race traverses the Sani Pass, the only road for motor vehicles that crosses the Natal Drakensberg, which is also the only road that links the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal to the Kingdom of Lesotho.  The route is challenging and the views spectacular - I absolutely can't wait!

  2. I've heard gret reports of the Sani marathon. Definitely an adventure that requires focused training - just what you're looking for.
I'm hoping to get into the Wildcoast Wildrun which takes place in the last quarter of the year. They only take 80 entries tho'.

  3. Zipp is too cute!
I hope that your dream comes true! That looks like a wonderful event to run. Indeed SA is my impossible dream, I would like to visit your Country, to enter a race and follow a match of the Springboks but my wife is scared to fly.

  4. Oh my goodness, that half must be added to my bucket list. I wonder how much a flight to South Africa costs?
