Settling In

After a hectic first week at work (as first weeks tend to go), I finally had today off to live and rest and properly explore my new surroundings.  What a pleasant surprise - I totally underestimated the place!

First off, I joined the gym.  I expected a small, stuffy old place with outdated equipment and aerobics classes where legwarmers and neon leotards were still mandatory...  WRONG!  The equipment is state-of-the-art, with fancy-schmancy treadmills that took me at least 5 minutes to figure out (luckily I went early and no-one else was there to witness the confusion).  PLUS it has a heated pool (with only three lanes, but who's counting?)!  PLUS it has daily classes, including pilates, spinning and Tae Bo.  I'm loving it!  (Yup, us smalltown folk sure get excited easily.)

First pleasant surprise of the day.

Then I went grocery shopping, expecting to find isles and isles filled with greasy, unhealthy options - WRONG again!  I found tons (there's that exaggeration tendency again) of healthy stuff - even two of my favourite favourites: Ostrich mince (soooo healthy and soooo tasty) and McNab's Energy Food Bars (all natural - the perfect at-work-snack).  Couldn't find my beloved Lindt Lindor dark chocolate truffles, though, but I came up with a worthy substitute: Dark Aero.  Houston, we might have a new favourite!  I left the shop happy and content.

Yay!!!  (The Aero wrapper lost its contents within seconds of leaving the store.  At least it made it that far.)

And then came the biggest blessing of the day: I found accommodation!  In a town where accommodation is just not available.  (This time I'm not exaggerating.  This town is bursting at the seams.)  Is that favour, or what?!  I'm soooooo thankful!

What a perfect day!

  1. We don't have Aero bars in the States--so European and so yummy! Glad you are finding your way in your new town.

  3. We don't have Aero in the states even though it is made my Nestle which is a big supplier in the states. My fav are the mint. I only get them when someone goes to England.

Thanks so much guys! Mmmmmm, those Aeros... The dark ones have a lot more solid chocolate and a lot less "bubbles" - soooo good!

@Kerrie: I moved to a small little town called Kathu in the Kalahari-region of South Africa. Very small, but I'm really starting to like it!
